We are often reminded of the importance of being present.
The phrase "Be here, Be now" is a cliche, but it is a good reminder.
And the truth is,
"Here" is hard to stick with.
Isn't it?
We know what the repurcussions of not being present are--
Stress, worry about the future, regret about the past...
Even positive anticipation, "I can't wait!" carries with it an unnerving energy.
Sure I can wait.
In fact, I have to. There is no time machine hanging out in my garage...
How do we re-anchor ourselves in the present, when today's bad meeting and tomorrow's fun plans are so tempting to think about constantly?
For starters there are two guiding questions you can ask:
1) What is the lesson HERE? Good or bad, the current situation often contains a lesson. It may be something as simple as "I need more time between appointments." or something profound and life course altering...
2) What can I contribute HERE? Is there a lonely person who needs a smile, a piece of litter that needs recycling, or a skill I can teach?
In other words, how can this moment be of service to me or how can I be of service to this moment?
Breathe in the PEACE right HERE and now, my friends. It is precious.
Namaste.
